ALPHA will begin again at Bethany January 6, 2008 at 6:00!
What is ALPHA??
Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith.
Learning and laughter.
People meeting together, making new friends over dinner.
Helping one another.
Ask anything. No question is too simple or too hostile.
Alpha is designed for people interested in investigating Christianity, newcomers to the church, new Christians, couples preparing for marriage, and Christians who seek renewal of their faith in Jesus. Alpha is presented in Christian churches of 127 denominations in 156 countries, including Lutheran, United Methodist, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Reformed, Presbyterian, and Assembly of God. No denominational differences are discussed. You are welcome too, even if you’re just curious, with or without a religious affiliation. You can come once, and, if it doesn’t fit, you don’t have to come back. No problem.
Alpha is a unique "meet-you-where-you-are" course. Adults of any age or background can benefit from the relaxed atmosphere and low-pressure setting. It’s a lot like dinner and a movie with friends. The course is offered at Bethany only once each year so don’t miss this one!
At Alpha there are talks (shown in a movie) on topics such as:
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- Why and how do I pray?
- What about the Holy Spirit?
- How can I overcome evil?
- Why and how should I tell others?
- How does God heal today?
- What about the church?
Alpha participants are assigned to a small group and after each talk people have an opportunity to express their opinions, to ask questions, and discuss issues that are raised. Many friendships are begun as group members learn and share together.
The Alpha course meets in the church basement at Bethany Lutheran Church , Kelley ,once each week for twelve weeks beginning Sunday evening, January 6. It begins with supper (free-will offering to cover the cost) at 6:00 p.m. and concludes by 8:30 p.m. The only charge is $5 for a course manual.
In order to assure that we have enough materials and food available, we’d like to know how many people are coming. Registration in advance is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome if you’ll come just after supper before the movie starts ( 6:45 p.m.).
Please contact Larry Kallem to register.
